Cycling and walking in Ayrshire are very popular weekend and holiday pursuits for visitors which can enhance your health and give access to our beautiful countryside. The National Cycle Network provides traffic-free paths, traffic calmed and minor roads ideal for cycling or walking. The National Cycle Route number 7 is the main artery from Carlisle to Glasgow and onward to Inverness. Its route through Ayrshire from the south enters from the dramatic Galloway Forest into the rural heartland of Ayrshire.
To the North you can follow Sustrans National Cycle Route 7 on Lochs and Glens South, from Ayr through Prestwick to Troon where you will discover the home of the Bristish Open Golf and wide sandy beaches.
We can offer secure garaging for your bicycle while you stay with us, and on request we'll provide you with our own anti-midge oil, in case you are out on the cycle path in the warm early evenings.
For walkers there are interesting walks through wooded areas, leading to cafes with their delicious spreads of home baking. Also we have two challenging golf courses. Robert Burns, our national poet, was born in this area, and his cottage is a focal point for many tourists. Nearby his cottage, is the recently constructed Burns' Heritage Centre, with excellent catering facilities. Weddings with all the grandeur, and enjoying a cup of tea, can be witnessed from the balcony of the Brig o' Doon House Hotel.
To extend your walk there is a stimulating route along Greenfield Avenue to the edge of the River Doon, which takes you to our seafront. Your return route can be through Bellisle Golf Course. In all involving just a few miles. A map of the area is supplied on your arrival.
